Joining a Club

RCGroups has an app called RCMaps. This will help you find your local aero modellers club. You could just use Google to find a club. My local club is the Bundaberg Aeromodellers Club. I made a few trips to our club and asked lots of questions before joining.

It was great talking to the members to get feedback on planes, and see what they used. My club added me to their mailing list and so I was able to contact the relevant people and get a feel for my future hobby. A special thanks to Patsy for all her help.

In Australia you need MAAA insurance and an adult club membership fee. My children only need to pay for the insurance. My only current experience with RC planes are small electrics, so this will be a first for me.

My Boomerang will need to have an inspection in the workshop to ensure it is safe, and only then will it make its maiden flight. We joined our club members for an indoor evening, and quickly learnt that a ParkZone Micro Vapor would be a better choice of plane.

I have bought several RC Magazines, and have found the Australian "Radio Control Model News" very useful.

I am looking forward to the years ahead.
